In the province of British Columbia, there are five health authority management in the region of B.C. The region that manages chronic diseases in my district is Interior Health BC. Many partners are involved in provincial and federal governments. Starting with the individual, family members, family doctors, community resources, and management programs, all work together for good health outcomes and wellness in accordance with the Canadian Health Act (Interior Health, 2023).
The Government of B.C. offers resources and programs to help people who want to learn more about self-managing chronic conditions (Government of Canada, 2023a). This website provides more information for people who wish to manage chronic diseases such as cancer, diabetes, chronic illnesses, and patient and pain management. It is supported by the Province of B.C. and the University of Victoria (Self-management BC, 2023). On the website, there is a portal to sign in with your personal information and email. Upon completion, you will be sent an information package and can choose to be part of a survey.
In recently published news on the website, the British Columbia government agreed to 27.47 million that honors the Canada Health Act to improve better access to health care, improve patient wait times, mental health and substance use and addictions services, and health care workforce for people in B.C., as part of their ten-year health fund plan (Government of Canada, 2023b). Listed below are some resources that the government of B.C. has on their website for managing chronic diseases.
